Beedie Field at SFU
While a training field was available on campus, it was not of sufficient standard to host visiting NCAA teams from throughout the US. When Keith Beedie became aware of this, the Keith & Betty Beedie Foundation decided to construct, with the help of a number of donors, and donate the field to SFU.
By the time construction was finished, the total cost exceeded $1,250,000. With the building of Beedie Field, Simon Fraser University can be assured of being the destination of choice for top Canadian female athletes who's goal is to remain in Canada to get a world Class education while being tested against the best competition the NCAA can provide - all the while playing in an absolutely first class facility in front of their family and friends. Although some games have been played, the official opening game was Friday, March 25th, 2011, which was won by SFU Clan, 4-1 over the Northwest Idaho Nazarene team.
